The Rabat Conference, entitled The clash of civilizations: challenging the hypothesis, inspired the exchanges and reflections that culminated in the publication of a collective work, launched at the 19th world Congress of the International Association of Political Science in Durban (South Africa) from June 29 to July 4, 2003.

During this event, GEPANC held three principal activities :

a round-table discussion that presented a synthesis of the work of the Rabat meeting from June 14-16, 2001;

a round-table discussion to develop the "Fatiha Talahite-Khaznadar" hypothesis, proposed by Fatiha Talahite (CNRES-Paris, France) and Selim S. Khaznadar (University of Constantine, Algeria) during the Rabat Conference in 2001;

a round-table discussion reporting on the conclusions of the 17 authors that had participated in the collective work : "And then along came September 11... Challenging the hypothesis of the clash of civilizations", El-Mostafa Chadli and Lise Garon (eds.), Laval University Press, Quebec City, June 2003).
