CHALLENGING THE HYPOTHESIS
OF THE "CLASH OF CIVILISATIONS"

Rabat, June 14-16, 2001

In the aftermath of the September 11th attacks in the United States, GEPANC held an epistemological seminar on the hypothesis of the "clash of civilizations" (Samuel Huntington), in Rabat, Morocco, in June, 2002.

This pre-congress meeting brought together scientists of the “Western” and “Muslim” worlds (Arab and Asian) to foster a broader perspective in view of the upcoming IPSA World Congress, to be held in Durban, June 29-July 4, 2003.

This seminar and the collective book that followed was made possible thanks to the generosity of our partners : the Friedrich Neumann Foundation, Mohamed V University in Rabat-Agdal, the President of Laval University in Quebec City, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Laval University, the Moroccan Union of Banks, the Ministry of Human Rights of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Quebec Ministry of International Relations, UNESCO, and the Canadian Department of External Affairs and International Trade.
