Since its foundation in 2000, the GEPANC organized several scientific meetings and published two collective books. Contrary to conventional academic meetings, the GEPANC's seminars are working sessions where different authors have the opportunity to discuss their respective research results in order to :
integrate them into a collective reflection ;
provide otherwise isolated authors with substantial feedback from their peers in order to refine their own methods, theories and concepts ;
promote encounters between the Arabo - Moslem and Western academic traditions that have too long been kept apart ;
prepare research reports focusing on a problematic rather than a topic ;
integrate the Arabo - Moslem researchers as full partners in the production of the international scientific agenda (and not merely as associated researchers, students or Western professors' helpers) ;
develop paradigms and hypotheses that transcend cultural particularities that are thus given universal meaning ;
produce collective publications in compliance with international scientific standa
For these reasons, our meetings must be considered as an integral part of the scientific knowledge process. Sometimes, a single working session can be sufficient. Such was the case for the seminar in Rabat (2001) about the "clash of civilization" hypothesis, where the participants arrived easily to the conclusion that the "clash" danger was a stage-setting illusion produced by the international public discourse, which local political leaders can easily take advantage of.
